CHEOPS MP and LP
projects
The EU co-funded projects CHEOPS MP and CHEOPS LP aim to innovate in the field of propulsion systems and increase Europe’s competitiveness in the satellite market. Electric propulsion systems (EPS) use electrical power to accelerate a propellant. Compared to chemical propellants, they are very lightweight and highly efficient.
CHEOPS Medium Power
To maintain its competitive edge, the EU-funded CHEOPS MEDIUM POWER project aims to provide Europe with a highly reliable dual-mode Hall effect electric propulsion system with enough power to perform both orbit-raising and station-keeping jobs. To achieve this, it will capitalise on CHEOPS phase 1 results to develop parts that will be used to create a lower-cost, higher-quality, faster assembly and manufacturing and more durable solution.
CHEOPS Low Power
LEO satellites are increasingly deployed in prominent constellations for applications including Earth observation, navigation and communications. They are also set to play a critical role in the Internet of Things, and taking a leadership position in this growing market requires a cost-effective EPS. The EU-funded CHEOPS LOW-POWER project is significantly advancing the necessary technologies to achieve the first entirely European low-power EPS addressing the LEO satellite market.
